SayPad, the freeware talking text editor can read you a good book or help you write one, using SAPI 5.1 Text To Speech (included). It can convert Text to MP3 for a whole book in one run, splitting off chapters into well named MP3 files. You can fit huge files into it like the whole Bible for instance, (In fact it has a filter you can turn on that skips over verse numbers to let you hear it like a story.) Say Pad is a keyboard driven talking text editor. Most of the controls are similar to any notepad. There are minor differences. It has some audio commands, such as hear block, and line read, and can read to you like a story. It lets you set the start and end of the selection block but if you move your position while the shift key is down, it will make the new block to be what you have just painted. I know of no upper limit to how much text it can hold. You can control how it automatically handles spacing when you cut and paste by using the auto spacing feature of the menu. If you want to hear something spelled out, turn on spelling. It can burn MP3 file sets or Wave file sets. All user dialog is spoken.

Text Filterer is an advanced full text search tool for Windows. It instantly searches for single words, partial words, Boolean word combinations, or exact phrases within hierarchically organized collections of documents. Classic Explorer-like interface allows you to easily switch between found documents viewing their contents in the preview pane, and navigate through the found entries in the text forward and back. Search results can be additionally narrowed by conditions imposed on document name, location, date/time, size, title, author, subject, etc. You create search queries as persistent filters stored with a collection, so you can reuse them in different work sessions. Switching between predefined filters gives you an effective way to explore the contents of a collection. Besides plain text files, Text Filterer searches in RTF, XLS, HTML, PDF and Unicode files, and uses MS Word (if installed) while indexing DOC and other MS Word supported files. With Excel files, Text Filterer provides capability to instantly search multiple files for data by Excel columns and rows presenting search results in one view.
